**If your condition is found to be secondary to certain medical conditions such as hypothyroidism, Cushing's syndrome, certain genetic factors, or due to a sedentary lifestyle and poor dietary habits without involving psychological triggers, referrals can be made e.g. to an endocrinologist . CERTIFICATIONS
Board Certified in Psychiatry since 2001. Board Certified in Obesity Medicine. Of the over 1800 physicians who passed the obesity medicine board certification exam in 2024, there were only 35 psychiatrist. Dr. Homer scored in the top 5 percent of all candidates.
Dr. Homer has received a certificate in Psychodynamic Psychotherapy from the New York Medical College and also received a certificate of Master Psychopharmacologist with Distinction form the Neuroscience Education Institute.
Dr. Homer is a Certified Nutrition Coach conferred by the National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM) and a NASM Certified Personal Trainer. He is a Certified Adaptive Person Trainer/SE Adaptive Special Needs Trainer.
EXPERIENCE
In his career as a psychiatrist Dr. Homer has been consulted on thousands of hospital and nursing home patients who often had presented with medical issues exacerbated by obesity. He served as the medical director of the addictions program at St. Albans Hospital in Virginia. He has been on the medical staff of Boca Raton Regional Hospital and in private practice for over 20 years.. Dr. Homer is completely passionate in combining his expertise in psychiatry and obesity medicine to help patients. He is nonjudgemental understanding how people struggle to lose weight and fight addictions. Volunteer work has included practicing psychiatry in Guatemala. Dr. Homer treats patients both in English and Spanish.
